Pivot Phoenix 29 DH bike teased at Sea Otter
Following the trend of long travel, downhill-specific 29ers being ridden on the World Cup and Crankworx circuit by some of the biggest stars from some of the biggest brands, Pivot officially announced last month that its version, the Phoenix 29, is on the way.
And on opening day of the 2019 Sea Otter Classic, Pivot upped the tease, displaying a carbon version of the bike. But they still aren’t shedding much light on the bike’s finer details. All we know for sure at this point is there will be carbon but no aluminum versions.
Obviously it’s long travel. But just how long? No one at Pivot would commit to a number, but judging by the fact that it has a 203mm Fox 49 Factory fork, it’s a safe bet rear travel will be equal to or slightly more than that. For now, though, Pivot said simply the bike is still in the prototyping phase, so rear travel might or might not change from what being shown here in California.
Mtbr can tell you that the rear linkage looks to have an eccentric pivot, which Pivot said could possibly be a way to incorporate adjustable geometry. Other than that, it’s a guessing game until Pivot is ready to spill the proverbial beans.
