This weekend marked the 17th annual Meet the Pioneers of Mountain biking fundraiser for the Trips for Kids non-profit organization. If you aren’t familiar with Trips for Kids, it is an organization founded by Marilyn Price in 1988 to help at-risk kids learn about environmental awareness, build confidence and a sense of achievement all through riding mountain bikes.

This year was extra special because it was held at the newly opened Marin Museum of Bicycling in Fairfax, CA that is now the new home of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Previously the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame was located in Crested Butte, CO since it’s inception in 1988. The new location is much bigger than the Colorado location, according to one party-goer.

The event allowed the public to come and see the new museum and to meet the people who helped create and invent mountain biking. Food and beer was served and many autographs were sought. The event was a huge success as the line was out the door and the museum soon reached maximum capacity. Price gave a speech welcoming everyone, thanking the Pioneers and organizers for their support and explaining the state of the fundraising efforts including the Buy-a-Brick campaign for the Mt. Tam legacy wall located in front of the museum. The fundraising is currently at the 40% fullfilled level, so they are still in need of donations.
