ORP’s Bike Light With Integrated Smart Horn

Commuting by bicycle has many benefits and is a good way to get some additional pedaling time into your busy day. However, it is often not the safest way to travel since bicyclists are not as visible on the road as auto drivers. In an effort to increase rider safety, ORP has an innovative new bike light that integrates a horn into a bike light that will aid bike commuters on their travels and make them easier to see AND hear.

The ORP has what they call their patented SmartHorn™ Technology that produces a horn blast with a maximum of 96 decibels, way more than any dinky bike bell can produce. The horn is designed to help riders alert cars, pedestrians, runners and other cyclists to their presence with a simple push on the light’s tail – another patented technology which is unique to ORP.

The light portion of the ORP has 87 lumens and run times of 3 hours (solid), 8 hours (fast flash) and 15 hours (slow flash). The horn has two settings, a “friendly” setting at 76 decibels and a “loud” setting of 96 decibels. Weight is a scant 89 grams and the housing stretches to fit handlebars with a diameter of 26 to 33 millimeters. The electronics are housed in a high impact polycarbonate case that is surrounded by a silicone skin, making it weatherproof and shockproof. Like most small lights these days, the entire unit is USB chargeable.

There is an optional remote switch (+$10) that is silicone bodied with a progressive 2-stage remote wired switch that works both horn and light. The ORP comes in 7 colors including: Glorp, Aorta Red, Snot Green, Frostbyte, Safety Cone Orange, Wail Blue, Asphalt Black.

The ORP light with horn sells for $65 and will be available at your local bike shop soon.

Our Take

We look forward to getting a test sample of the ORP light/horn. It is an innovative product and increasing rider safety on the road is definitely a worthy cause. The price may seem high for a small commuter light, but add in the functionality of a loud horn that is accessible at your finger tips and it is not expensive if it keeps riders from getting hit.
