Nukeproof Mega 275c launched

The 2018 Nukeproof Mega 275 C is the company’s first carbon bike.

Currently leading the Enduro World Series and fresh from a 6th place finish at the downhill World Championship in the hands of the legendary Sam Hill, it feels the stars have aligned for the release of the new Nukeproof Mega 275c.

When Hill announced his switch from DH racing to focus on the Enduro World Series it gave Nukeproof the opportunity to pit the Mega against the biggest bike brands in the world and develop products on the world’s toughest tracks at race speed.

The big news is the development of the Mega 275c, Nukeproof’s first ever carbon bike. Not only is the chassis 320g lighter than its aluminum counterpart, the strength of the frame has also been improved enabling its rider to push harder, faster, and with more confidence, says Nukeproof.

Sam Hill rode the Nukeproof Mega to a stunning 6th place at the recently completed world downhill championships in Australia.

On all of the new Mega 275 and 290 models (carbon and alloy), Nukeproof focused on the details to provide the biggest improvements on an already podium proven chassis. They made the decision to commit to a dedicated 1x drivetrain configuration across all models. This enabled their engineers to achieve maximum stiffness. By utilizing the space required for a front derailleur they could increase the main pivot bearing placement. This additional stiffness also prevents torsional flex under pedaling and helps the chassis better track through high speed and rough terrain.

Nukeproof also made the switch to boost hub spacing for increased wheel stiffness and tire clearance. Frame geometry tweaks include slightly taller head tube lengths to help tailor the cockpit feel for increased rider confidence, and a lengthened top tube on large and XL frames. All frames have also had their geometry altered to take advantage of 170mm forks for 275 and 160mm for 290, with longer rear travel (165mm on the 275) to make the new Mega even more capable.

The new Mega’s headtube length is 5mm longer and reach is 10mm to 35mm longer depending on size.

Some of the new Mega models utilize the new RockShox Super Deluxe rear shock, and hardware is now comprised of a wider spaced 25mmx8mm front mount, with a rocker link mounted bearing system to improve shock sensitivity and reduce the amount of wear through heavy usage.

This combination is claimed to add even more stiffness to the chassis through these more secure fixtures and the metric rear shock system with increased bushing overlap. Finally, working with their race team, engineers, Fox and SRAM, they tested and developed specific shock tunes to make the most out of the Mega frame.
