It’s hard for us to put a finger on Sun Valley, Idaho mountain biking. Not having the opportunity to go there yet, we always ask friends and locals what the scene is like. Endless, flowy singletrack is the typical response we get. Great views and a good, authentic, quiet scene seem to be standard faire. But is it worth trekking all the way out there to experience the land? That’s always the key question when deciding on the one or two destinations for the year. Is it good for all the mountain bike buddies? Who do I contact when I get there? Are there enough activities if I bring the family? This video from Freehub Magazine and Teton Gravity capture some of the growing mountain bike scene from the area.
Sun Valley, Idaho might be best known for the first chairlift, but the small town on the edge of the Sawtooth National Forest has slowly become a biking mecca. In 1988, the area hosted the NORBA National Finals, but the fame was short lived. A steady evolution of mountain bike enthusiasts and committed community members has since led to 400-plus miles of singletrack right out of town, lift accessed trails on Bald Mountain and the Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival, a weekend of epic racing and unparalleled good times.
