New Thomson rigid seat posts, plus dropper updates
Thomson’s new carbon posts will be manufactured overseas, but all the machine work will still be done in the U.S.
Carbon Masterpiece
Before the era of dropper posts, the Thomson Masterpiece was the gold standard of seatposts. Today, it remains popular among the XC racing set. These same customers have been asking Thomson for a carbon version and now it’s here. Depending on seatpost diameter, they are 10-30 grams lighter than their alloy counterparts. The new Carbon Masterpiece will begin shipping early next year. It will be available in 27.2, 30.9, and 31.6mm diameters in 330mm and 410mm lengths. Price has yet to be announced.
The new forged post is marginally heavier than its counterpart, but offers more offset. A carbon version is also in development that should help reduce weight.
Setback Posts
Thomson’s setback posts also receive an update. Gone is the distinctive kink replaced by a 3D forged aluminum head. The old post had 16mm of setback, while the new version has 25mm. Retail price is not set yet, but the posts should start shipping in early January. A carbon version is also in development.
The new Covert 2.0 is in the final stages of development.
New Dropper Post
On the dropper post front, Thomson is working on an updated version of the Covert. Changes include a new shop serviceable cartridge and simplified internals that should help to improve their already impressive reliability.
The new dropper lever is modular and will be available aftermarket.
New Lever
With the new dropper comes an improved lever. It will be available aftermarket and can be retrofitted with the current post. Unlike the old unit, this lever is modular and can be run upright or sideways like a shift paddle.
