Mtbr weighed the Kona 2017 product line
Manufacturer weights are often very different from actual weights, so we put the Kona 2017 product line on the scale to find out the truth. Due to time constraints, we couldn’t weigh every bike, but this post will give you a basic idea of what things weigh out of the box.
The size medium Kona Hei Hei Trail DL 27.5” weighs 26.59 lb/12.06 kg and retails for $5999. Please note, weight includes tubes.
The Kona Hei Hei Trail is available in three different builds. The DL version pictured above is the mid-level build and features a Shimano XTR drivetrain, KS Lev dropper post, Fox Factory level suspension, and WTB carbon rims laced to Hope hubs. Weight is 26.59 lbs/12.06 kg with tubes.
The size large Kona Hei Hei Supreme 27.5” weighs 26.74 lb/12.13 kg and retails for $7499. Please note, weight includes tubes.
The Supreme is the highest end Hei Hei Trail trim kit available. Unlike the DL, it features RockShox suspension, carbon bars, and a full SRAM XX1 drivetrain. In a size large with tubes, it weighs 26.74 lb/12.13 kg.

This year, Kona’s build kits mirror each other regardless of wheel size. This allows customers to make their purchasing decisions based on what bike best suits their needs, rather than trying to decide what model offers the best value.
In practice, this means that both the 27.5” and 29” versions of the Hei Hei Supreme share an almost identical build kit. The main difference is suspension. Unlike the more trail oriented 27.5” model, the 29er is more of an XC race bike, so Kona outfitted it with front and rear lockouts.
They also spec’d a RockShox RS-1 fork, which we’ve found provides outstanding small bump compliance. The one caveat is that it’s slightly heavier and far more expensive than comparable travel models. These differences in spec likely account for the $500 difference in price between Hei Hei Supreme 27.5 and 29 models.
The size large Kona Hei Hei 29 weighs 29.92 lb/13.57 kg and retails for $2499. Please note, weight includes tubes.
The base level version of the Kona Hei Hei 29 uses an aluminum frame and retails for less than the cost of a carbon Hei Hei frame. For that money, you get a fully shred’able rig that weighs just under 30 lbs with tubes and ships with a Shimano XT 1×11 drivetrain and KS dropper.
The size large Kona Process 134 DL weighs 30.71 lb/13.93 kg and retails for $3599.
For 2017, the Process models received updated geometry. The top tubes were stretched 15mm on sizes small through large, while the XL gained 25mm. Kona also slackened the head angle. The newly revised Process 134 DL weighs 30.71 lb/13.93 kg and retails for $3599.
