Winner: Fox Transfer

We consider the dropper post to be the greatest recent development in the sport of mountain biking along with disc brakes. It enables experts to handle aggressive terrain and assists beginners in getting comfortable with the bike. But typical dropper posts costs $450 or more and many require constant maintenance.

Enter the Fox Transfer, an infinite adjust damped dropper post available with internal or external remote cable. It is Fox’s version 2.0 dropper post effort where they focused on the usability to complement the reliability of their previous effort, the D.O.S.S. And for the knockout trifecta, they priced it at $329 with lever.

We’ve put this post through its paces and it is a near flawless effort. The locked position is firm and confidence inspiring at any position in the travel. Lever effort is light and you can control the speed of the damped posts upward movement. The post clamp is the reliable and easy-to-use dual-bolt variety. And the internal cable routing is reliable and easy to install. There’s also a stationary external cable version of the post so one can install a dropper on older bikes with no internal routing. And most important of all, the post has been incredibly consistent and reliable in our hundreds of hours on it this season.

Price is $400 and they have170mm and 200mm travel options.

The Bontrager Dropline brings a full featured post under the $300 mark.

Honorable Mention: Bontrager Drop Line

The Bontrager Drop Line is a full-featured post for $300. It has all the right elements with infinite, damped travel and an awesome lever that makes it easy to control the speed of the post. It just works and doesn’t call attention to itself.
