MRP Ribbon Coil fork launched

We’ve long been fans of MRP. The Colorado-based company is among the industry leaders in the chain guide game and makes some of the best trail-worthy suspension forks on the market. It’s also good to have other players in the market to at least disrupt the dominance of Fox and RockShox. Choice, after all, is a good thing.

Now you can add a coil driven fork to that list of choices. This week MRP has launched the Ribbon Coil, follow-up to their Ribbon fork. “Discerning riders have long sworn by the performance, durability, and consistency of coil suspension,” explained MRP is a press release. “While the industry moved away from coil springs in favor of air for its light weight and simple, broad tunability, these coil aficionados dreamt of a fork that combined coil’s advantages with the latest in chassis and damper technology. The Ribbon Coil top line features include spring tunability and stroke control previously only found only with air fork, while also delivering a supple linear spring curve, low friction, longer service life, and consistent feel. And the weight penalty isn’t that bad, with the Ribbon Coil weighing 203 grams (or 0.45 pounds) more than the air-sprung Ribbon. Each Ribbon Coil fork ships with three standard spring rates (soft, medium, and firm). Two additional springs (extra-soft and extra-firm) are available separately for $40 a piece. The fork itself sells for $990. The full range of springs covers riders from 125-250 pounds. Fine-tuning of spring rate comes courtesy of an external preload adjustment.

The Ribbon Coil also has MRP’s highly-regarded Ramp Control feature, a speed-sensitive ending-stroke adjustment that allows the rider to tune preferred amount of bottom-out support with the simple twist of a knob.
Like all MRP forks, the Ribbon Coil is assembled in MRP’s Grand Junction, Colorado factory. All forks undergo in-house quality control checks that includes dyno testing. Like the standard Ribbon, the Ribbon Coil comes in 27.5 or 27.5+/29 sizes. There are also 1o standard decal color options, and either QR-style or bolt-on 15×110 axles. And 27.5+/29 models have two offsets, 46mm or 51mm. All 27.5 models have a 44mm offset.
