Mongoose Teocali, Salvo 29 and Beast fat bike at the Dew Tour

The Dew Tour action sports event was this past weekend in San Francisco and Mtbr was there checking out the awesome BMX, skate and freestyle motocross competitions going on right in Civic Center Plaza.

There was also a pretty big vendor expo area with a lot going on. As one of the main sponsors of the Dew Tour, Mongoose had several bikes on display including BMX bikes, kid’s bikes, fixies and quite a few mountain bikes. There was even a pump track that was open to the public. We previously covered the new Meteore 27.5 hardtail and the Boot’R DH rig at Bike Press Camp. So, featured here are the new Mongoose Teocali, Salvo 29 and the Beast fat bike.

Teocali

The Teocali is an All Mountain bike with 150mm of travel from an aluminum frame equipped with an X-Fusion 02-RLX shock featuring 3-position rebound and lockout control. Up front, suspension is handled by an X-Fusion Slant RL2 150 mm travel fork with lockout, tapered steerer and 15 mm thru axle. The Shimano drivetrain features Deore/XT 3×10 derailleurs with SLX shifters. The rest of the spec is highlighted by Hayes Prime Comp disc brakes, WTB rims, WTB saddle, Cane Creek headset and Kenda tires. The Teocali comes in small, medium, large and extra large sizes.

Salvo 29

The Salvo 29 is an XC big wheeled bike with 100mm of travel from an aluminum frame equipped with an X-Fusion 02-RLX shock. The Rock Shox Recon Silver fork handles the bumps out front and has lockout, Maxle and a matching 100mm of travel. Like the Teocali, the Salvo 29 features a Shimano Deore/XT 3×10 drivetrain with SLX shifters. Spec highlights here include Hayes Prime Sport disc brakes, WTB rimes, VP headset, Mongoose platform pedals and Kenda tires. The Salvo 29 is available in small, medium and large sizes.

Beast

The Beast is Mongoose’s fat bike and let’s face it…it’s cheap. And yes, it’s sold at Walmart. If you want to have a nice fat bike that will stand up to years of abuse in sand, snow, dirt and mud…this isn’t it. But if you are fat bike-curious but you’re not ready to throw down a bunch of money, and the limit of your riding will be mostly beach oriented, then the Beast offers an alternative for only $199. There are many discussions in our Fat Bike Forum about the pros and cons of such a cheap bike and I am not going to debate those here. What the Beast is, is a chromoly steel, rigid frame with a rigid fork and comes with 4″ wide alloy rims that are shod with 4 1/4″ beach cruiser type knobbies. The geometry is decidedly cruiser style, it comes in only one size and it’s a singlespeed. It is available in 3 colors (blue, red, green) and is shown here in limited edition Dew Tour graphics. Compared to the average fat bike, it will be heavy in weight and heavy in it’s singlespeed gearing. But again, it’s damn cheap.
