Michelin Wild Enduro and Power Gravel tires launched
Michelin’s new MAGI-X2 rubber compound is claimed to maximize braking and cornering grip in all conditions and temperatures.
Mtbr spotted several exciting new tires from Michelin at Frostbike 2018, including a new enduro model and their highly anticipated Power Gravel offering.
Michelin Wild Enduro
In the wake of the launch of its new Michelin cross country and all-mountain ranges last spring, Michelin has turned its attention to enduro with the introduction of three new Michelin Wild Enduro tires (FRONT MAGI-X / FRONT GUM-X / REAR GUM-X) which cover more than 80 percent of the different types of terrain likely to be encountered by enduro riders.
Michelin’s Gum-X rubber has decreased rigidity for better directional control and terrain versatility.
The Michelin Wild Enduro range targets both casual fans of the discipline and expert riders who seek tires that combine performance, outstanding grip and strength. Not only does this particularly versatile new range tick all these boxes, they say, but it also simplifies tire choice by providing riders with an efficient solution for practically every situation.
This flexibility ensures maximum efficiency across the spectrum of terrain types encountered during most rides, from forest trails, to dry, hard-packed ground, sand and damp surfaces. This versatility and the two new rubber compounds developed for the Michelin Wild Enduro range also address the needs of more aggressive riders thanks to the GRAVITY SHIELD, MAGI-X² and GUM-X3D technologies that these new tires pack.
Michelin’s riders and engineers started to develop the casings and rubber compounds for the Michelin Wild Enduro range at the end of 2015, while work on the tread patterns began during 2016. Enduro racing stars such as Adrien Dailly, Jérôme Clementz, Karim Amour and Remy Absalon all played a part in developing, testing and signing off the three tires that make up the new Michelin Wild Enduro range.
In other news, Michelin’s Wild AM and Wild Force will be available in 27.5×2.6 and 2.8 very soon, the tire maker says.
The Magi-X compound is designed for front wheel use, offering better grip and traction at high speeds. This new tread design is said to provide more progressivity and terrain versatility, while the rubber compound is aimed at maximizing braking and cornering grip in all conditions and temperatures. A new lightweight “Gravity Shield” casing provides enhanced puncture protection.
The front GUM-X compound is designed to aid in cornering at speed and provide superb grip. Michelins new generation of GUM-X rubber has decreased rigidity for better directional control and excellent terrain versatility. The Gum-X tires will also employ Micheline “Gravity Shield” casing, with the rear-specific adding a “Pinch Protection” bead to increase rigidity and minimize flats.
The Michelin Power Gravel’s tread is semi-diamond shaped and said to roll fast on or off road.
Michelin Power Gravel ($65)
Michelin’s new Gravel Power tire will be available for purchase in early March, and is available in 33mm, 35mm, and 40mm widths. Designed for the rigors of gravel riding and racing, Michelin’s Gravel Power is equipped with “Bead 2 Bead Protek” reinforcement casing and the new X-Miles Compound rubber, which is claimed to increase durability.
