Day 1 of the first annual Borealis Fat Bike World Championship went off in spectacular fashion on Thursday at the North Village venue in the Town of Mount Crested Butte. Skies were stellar blue, temps were a balmy high 30s, and the 2.6-mile rolling track was in perfect shape (except for the last few laps when high traffic created a host of terrifying tire trapping ruts). Mtbr was on the ground for opening race of this 4-day event, completing the 8-lap race, 21-mile race, without too much drama. Next up Friday is an advocacy summit, then Saturday’s world championship race in Crested Butte, and finally a downhill fun ride on Sunday at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort Ski Area. Here’s a tip-to-tail pictorial look at the day that was. (Thanks to Zack and Wade from Scott Sports for taking over picture taking duties while we were racing.)
