Maxxis adds host of new MTB tire sizes
Maxxis has once again upped its number of available tires/sizes starting with the classic cross country Race TT, which gets wider with a new 2.2 size. This follows the trend of courses getting rougher. The Race TT is now available in 27.5×2.0, 29×2.0, 27.5×2.2 and 29×2.2.
Meanwhile, the Maxxis Rekon, originally designed as a plus size tire, now gets a normal sibling with the new 29×2.25 size. It is a modestly aggressive trail tire, which offers confidence on XC trails. Available sizes are now 27×2.6, 29×2.25, 29×2.6, and 27.5×2.8.
Yet another expansion has occurred with the Maxxis Ardent Race. Originally designed for technical XC courses and endurance-length events, the Ardent Race now gets a new 27.5×2.6 size. The Rekon range also includes 26×2.2, 27.5×2.2, 27.5×2.35, 27.5×2.6, 29×2.2 and 29×2.35.
It’s a similar story with the Forekaster, a relatively new tire designed for loose trail conditions with its open tread blocks to allow better mud-cleaning. This tire now comes in a 27.5×2.60 version to go with 27.5×2.2, 27.5×2.35, 29×2.2 and 29×2.35.
For young riders, there’s good news, as the popular Minion DHF now comes in a 24×2.4 size. At last they get to enjoy the same great tread pattern as their parents. Also, to be able to be more compatible with wider rims (30-35mm), Maxxis has expanded the Minion DHF’s Wide Trail offerings to include 26×2.5WT, 27.5×2.5WT and 29×2.5WT. If that’s not wide enough, a 27.5×2.6 is also available, plus tubeless ready downhill versions. To match the front specific DHF, the Minion DHR II rear tire also gets the new 27.5×2.6 size, as well as a tubeless ready downhill version.
The open and aggressive tread of the High Roller II was a bit square on normal rims, so imagine what happened on wide rims. That’s why now the Wide Trail version is applied on this tire too, in 27.5×2.5WT and 29×2.5WT versions. The more XC-oriented Aggressor also gets the wide trail versions in 27.5×2.5WT and 29×2.5WT.
Finally, with winter just around the corner, 258 studs have been added as an option for to the winter-optimized Moose Track fatbike tire. It’s available in 26×4.8.
