Mavic Deemax DH and Pro wheels updated
A year after finally jumping into the carbon mountain bike wheel fray, Mavic is back with more new MTB hoops. But these are geared specifically to the gravity crowd — and do not come in carbon. Not yet anyway.
This week, French company announced the newest iteration of its Deemax DH wheelset, which they say are wider, lighter and more vertically compliant than the previous edition. Developed for World Cup level downhill racing, the new wheels have already tasted victory underneath Australian Troy Brosnan, who took top honors in Andorra a few weeks back.
Top line highlights include a 28mm internal rim width, 12×157 hub compatibility, and a claimed 1944-gram wheelset weight. Both wheels are laced with 28 double butted spokes and utilize Mavic’s proprietary ISM machining that helps lower weight without compromising stiffness and strength. The Deemax DH wheels are also UST tubeless, and use steel straight pull, bladed spokes. Lacing is 3-cross front and rear and rotor attachment is 6-bolt.
Mavic also announced updates to its enduro wheel, the Deemax Pro, which is UST tubeless, has a hookless profile, and comes in 27.5 only. They have a claimed weight of 1700 grams, and utilizes variances in rim width front to rear, with the front wheel measuring 28mm wide internally to allow for a wider tire patch, resulting in better traction. Out back internal width shrinks to 25mm to help deliver quicker acceleration coming out of turns or on flat trail sections.
Both front and rear have 24 straight pull, bladed spokes, with the front wheel utilizing a 2-cross lacing pattern and the rear employing Mavic’s Isopulse pattern. The wheels will be available in boost and non-boost and use 6-bolt rotor attachment.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but both wheelsets will be available starting in September 2017. To learn more head over to www.mavic.com.
