Juliana Furtado, the greatest female mountain bike racer ever, had a profound reaction to high profile suicides like Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. Juliana’s mother used to routinely tell her children, “I’m going to kill myself and when I do it will be because you kids make my life miserable.”
Juli has kept a journal, many journals in fact. And she read them all en masse, three years ago.
Juliana’s mom indeed took her own life, leaving the former Olympian and three-time World Champion with a lifetime struggle. In fact, the Santa Cruz resident found herself questioning whether she wanted to live into her 50s. Instead, she found help, turned her life around and is now sharing her story for the first time.
The recent suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain have compelled Juli to open up.
