Interbike: Smith Overtake helmet with MIPS technology

Smith Overtake Side

Smith made some waves in the stagnant mountain bike helmet market by introducing Koroyd technology in the Forefront helmet. This technology mates the green Koroyd material with the EPS foam to reduce impact force by 40%. They also injected some fresh styling and colors into the category.

The Overtake helmet is the XC Mtb version and it applies all the technology of the Forefront and uses the same head shape as well, which seems to fit a large variety of users. Styling on the Overtake seems to be quite dialed as well, as it is more streamlined and mature than the Forefront (albeit different categories).

Smith Overtake Back

New for Interbike is the introduction of MIPS models. MIPS is the technology that allows the helmet rotate a bit during the crash. It is tested and has been proven to reduce concussions. What’s cool about the Smith Overtake implementation as well is the MIPS rotation is allowed on all axes (not just front to back as in earlier implementations).

Smith Overtake Inside MIPS

The price for the Smith Overtake is $250 and $290 for MIPS version. It weighs in at 250 grams.
