Interbike: PowerBar’s new flavors of Performance Energy Wafers and 30 gram Protein Plus bars
PowerBar is one of the originators of the sports energy bar and their line of Performance Energy bars and PowerGels have been used by cyclists for years.
Performance Energy Wafer bar
They were at Interbike with samples of the new Lemon Cream flavor of Performance Energy Wafer bar. The product was launched at the Sea Otter Classic with their Berry Yogurt and Chocolate Peanut Butter flavors. The wafers are similar to the waffle-type products that are currently on the market. The wafer bars are for before or during rides and have a combination of glucose and fructose. PowerBar calls this dual source of sugars their C2Max that they claim is shown to “improve athlete performance up to 50% of energy to muscles with 8% increase in performance across the board.” The new Lemon Cream flavor will be available in March 2015.
30g Protein Plus bar
Also new for PowerBar, they have a 30 gram Protein Plus bar where previously they only had 20 gram protein bars. The new Protein Plus bars have a proprietary blend of whey, soy and casein proteins to provide muscle-building amino acids. They are targeted towards high-intensity endurance activities to help support muscle growth and repair. The 30 gram bar comes in Chocolate Brownie, Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter Cookie and is available now.
