In the Queue: A look at what’s new in Mtbr’s review hopper
2015 Marin Attack Trail C-XT9
This Marin Attack Trail C-XT9 sits in the Mtbr offices wearing a satisfying coat of NorCal mud splatter. We picked up our test bike from company reps in Fairfax, Calif. and took it for a rip at Camp Tamarancho on the flanks of Mt. Tamalpais—the sport’s birthplace. While we have much more riding to do on this burly 150mm-travel enduro machine, the early signs are quite positive.
Ghost Riot 7 LC
The Ghost bike brand may be a new one to US consumers, but the company has been cranking out well-regarded product for years in its home country of Germany. Staring in January Ghost will begin US distribution exclusively through outdoor retailer REI. We got our hands on a tester this week—the 130mm-travel Ghost Riot 7LC—and are intrigued by its dual linkage configuration. We’ll let you know what we think of this after we get a few more rides under our belt.
WTB Volt Carbon Saddle
The new 159-gram Volt Carbon is the lightest production saddle WTB has ever made. It features carbon fiber rails and surprisingly comes with no rider weight limitation. The shape is classic WTB style and features a pressure relief groove for comfort.
MountainWasher Portable Pressure Washer
The MountainWasher is billed as the “ultimate mobile power washer for dirty outdoor gear,” and as foul weather is finally rearing its ugly head in our area, we plan on assessing that claim.
Ergon GE1 Grips
Ergon is best known for its ergonomic (and some might argue unsightly) XC-oriented mountain bike grips. But the German company’s GE1 lock-on model takes a more subtle approach that will appeal to fat tire fashionistas — and are claimed to offer solid trail/enduro riding performance. Directional texture is designed to provide better grip, and there’s still a slight ridge along the bottom side for improved ergonomics. We’ve mounted them on our trail steed and will let you know how they hold up.
Doppio Espresso
New from Italy’s Effetto Mariposa is the Doppio Espresso double-size inflate and repair canister. The 125ml cartridge is designed to fill large volume MTB tires, making it a potential ride saver if you slash a sidewall out on the trail. It’s the same formula found in Caffelatex, so after you use the Doppio the sealant is supposed to remain working in your tire for 3-6 months. We’ll let you know if this story holds air.
