Ibis DV9 carbon hardtail ready to race — or shred

Ibis DV9

Race on Saturday, shred on Sunday: That’s the mantra of the new Ibis DV9.

After hitting a proverbial home run with its Ripmo enduro slayer early this year, Ibis has unveiled its new DV9 carbon hardtail. The Ibis DV9 is a split-personality rig that’s billed as being equally comfortable racing full-tilt XC or getting drifty on techy singletrack.

Tire clearance for the Ibis DV9 is up to 2.6.

Key metrics of the Ibis DV9 include 29er wheels, clearance for up to 2.6 tires, and front travel of 100mm or 120mm. Headtube angle is 68.5-degrees with the shorter travel fork, or 67.4 is you opt for a little more squish. You can see all the bike’s geo numbers in the chart below. Click the image to enlarge.

The other primary talking point is price. Frame only sells for $999, while complete bikes start at $2199. Here’s a rundown of key features and build specs. Again, click the image to enlarge.

The story behind the Ibis DV9 is worth repeating as well. The bike was inspired by high school XC racer, Lili Heim, daughter of Ibis co-owner and CEO Hans Heim. His aim was to build a bike that was versatile enough for her to race and shred, but affordable enough that she could pay for it with her summer job.

Indeed, you can line up for race day with a 100mm Fox Step-Cast fork with remote lockout and 2.25 tires. Or opt for a more playful set-up with a 120mm Fox Rhythm 34 and 2.6 tires. And in case you’re wondering, the DV stands for development, as Ibis believes this is a bike you can grow with.

The frame comes in two colors, Bone White/Teal above or Black/Orange below.

Other features include boost hub spacing, 31.6 seatpost compatibility, post mount rear brake with max rotor size of 203mm, 439mm chainstays, threaded BB, and max chainring of 34t. There are four available frame sizes, two colors (Bone White/Teal, and Black/Orange), claimed frame weight size medium in 1204g, and the Ibis DV9 frame comes with a 7-year warranty.
