Gore Rescue B MTB rain jacket as light as they come
Many mountain bikers love Gore Bike Wear’s current off-road rain gear offerings (this reviewer included). While reliably durable, there are certainly lighter options available on the market. But now in a nod to gram-counters, Gore’s new Rescue B Jacket uses the lightest three-layer Gore Tex material the manufacturer produces.
The cut is slim and unlike the previous Rescue Jacket, it has a full-length zipper. Its hood is designed to fit under a helmet and features a rain gutter to keep water from running into your eyes. The 360-degree reflective accents increase rider visibility in low-light conditions. Available this fall, the Rescue B will sell for $250.
On the road side, Gore has updated its Shake Dry jacket, launched last year and featuring a permanent waterproof material. The new version has a slightly longer tail for additional coverage, and is slightly roomier. It is still a slim fit though to keep the racer crowd happy.
Now dubbed the 1985 Shake Dry Jacket, it pays homage to the first cycling specific jacket Gore produced in the mid 1980s. That jacket was orange, and the new model has orange accents as a subtle aesthetic cue to the original. Produced in both women’s and men’s versions, the 1985 Shake Dry sells for $300 and is available now.
