Giro launches three new gravity MTB shoes

Giro Riddance

Everybody loves new shoes and we’re betting these three gravity-oriented offerings from Giro won’t change that. The California brand was at Sea Otter this year showing off its Jacket II, Riddance, and Chamber II MTB kicks. Here’s a rundown on each.

Giro Riddance

Giro Riddance

For flat pedal devotees comes the Riddance. Durability was the main design driver, which is why Giro leaned on Vibram to create an ultra-sticky but tough sole compound. The new Megagrip ISR rubber combines vibration damping with pedal-sticking power. Up top is a water-resistant and breathable microfiber upper with laced closure and lace keeper. Heel and toe are reinforced and Rockprint material is used to beef up the area around the ankle and toe. Claimed weight is 430 grams (size 43), and they come in sizes 36-50 and three color options: blue jewel/black, dark red/dark shadow, and dark shadow/black. Price: $130 | More info at www.giro.com

Giro Chamber II

Giro Chamber II

For the clipless crowd, Giro has launched the Chamber II, the shoe that adorned Aaron Gwin’s feet during last weekend’s World Cup downhill victory. (You’ll also spy these kicks on Enduro World Series pros Richie Rude and Cody Kelley, who played a role in the design.) Among the significant changes was a rearward repositioning of the cleat pocket, which was moved back 10mm to get your foot more centered over the pedal for better balance and control.

They also utilize a water-resistant reinforced microfiber upper and have enhanced durability thanks to a full Vibram Megagrip rubber outsole. The internal shank has been updated with a Tri-Mold construction that optimizes stiffness and flex, keeping them comfortable but still useful for pedaling uphill. Closure is via laces and a power strap, and there are rubber toe and heel reinforcements, plus robust Rockprint material around the ankle and toes. Claimed weight is 510 grams (size 43), and they come in sizes 35-50 and two colors: dark shadow black and blue jewel/midnight. Price: $150 | More info at www.giro.com

Giro Jacket II

Dubbed a daily driver, these casual shoes work just as well puttering around the garage as they do ripping around a pump track. Highlights include reinforced, water-resistant microfiber upper and a Vibram Ecostep rubber outsole. Closure is via laces, and there are toe and heel reinforcements to ward off rock strikes or hammer drops.

Giro Jacket II

Claimed weight is 415 grams (size 43), and they come sizes 37-48 and three color options: dark shadow/gum, midnight/midnight, and olive black. Price: $90 | More info at www.giro.com
