FSA cranks go modular, Afterburner wheels get WideR
FSA’s new cranks use a modular design that allows them to be easily transferred from bike to bike. WIth a simple lockring removal tool (which also fits Cannondale Hollowgram cranks), you can fit either a 1x or 2x chainring. You can also insert or remove a spacer to adapt the to accommodate either standard or boost spacing.
The modular mountain bike cranks are available starting at $139 for the new Comet cranks and top out around $450 for the carbon SL-K version. In between these price points, you’ll find the Afterburner and Gradient.
For those interested in dual ring setups, FSA offers 38/28T, 38/24T, 36/24T, 36/26T, 36T/22T combinations. Prefer 1x? You can pick up a narrow/wide chainring in either 38T, 36T, 34T, 32T, 30T, 28T, or 26T.
In addition to cranks, FSA also offers a full line of off road wheels. Their newest model is the Afterburner WideR. These asymmetric rims are 27mm wide and utilize a hookless bead, which helps ease tire installation, and increases durability. The hubs are available with either a Shimano or XD driver. There’s also boost and standard axle options.
Claimed weight for the 27.5” wheelset is 1640. The 29” version comes in at 1720g. Retail price for the complete wheelset is $628.99
