Frenchman breaks world mountain bike speed record
On March 28, 54-year-old Frenchman Eric Barone broke his own mountain bike speed record on a downhill snow run in Vars, France. His maximum speed was 138.75mph, just slightly faster than his previous record mark of 138.081mph set in 2000. Watch the action go down.

Barone had a brutal crash in 2002 when his bike separated at the headtube while he was attempting a run at the record on the slopes of the Cerro Negro volcano in Nicaragua. That incident kept him off the bike for several years before he decided to have another go at the world record. Here’s footage of that stunning crash.
