First Look: Jamis Dakar AMT Pro 27.5

Jamis Dakar AMT Pro

Jamis Bikes showed us their Dakar AMT Comp that we featured in our Round-up of 12 awesome value mountain bikes, but the bike that the Jamis guys were most excited about was the all new Dakar AMT Pro 27.5.

The Dakar AMT Pro was redesigned last year around the 27.5″ wheel platform and it is further refined for 2015. It was a very good seller for Jamis so they have boosted the line-up from 2 to 3 models now. The AMT Pro is the top of the line model and upgrades this year include American Classic Wide Lightning color matched rims. The AC rim is wider than the rims spec’d last year and this allows Jamis to go from a 2.4″ tire to a 2.25″, but still getting almost the same volume with a lighter tire and rim setup.

The frame is hydroformed triple-butted aluminum featuring 150mm of Jamis’ MP4 suspension travel. It uses cartridge bearing pivots and has a 1.5 – 1 1/8″ tapered head tube, asymmetrical chainstays,12x142mm thru-axle, dropper post routing and ISCG05 chainguide mounts.

A RockShox Pike RCT3 fork is featured up front paired with a RockShox Monarch Plus RC3 high volume shock in the back. A SRAM X1 drivetrain comes with a 10-42T cassette and a 32T ring in the front. It is spec’d with the new SRAM Guide disc brakes, Ritchey WCS bar and stem, WTB Volt saddle and a KS LEV DX dropper post.

The Jamis Dakar AMT Pro comes in 4 sizes (15″, 17″, 19″, 21″) and the finish is called “Teal Fo’ Real”. Claimed weight is 29.5 lbs and it is available now with an MSRP of $4799.00.

The other two models in this lineup are the Dakar AMT Expert and the Dakar AMT Comp. The Expert features a Fox 34 Float fork, Fox Float CTD shock, SRAM 2×10 drivetrain and KS Supernatural dropper post with an MSRP of $3599. The Comp features an X-Fusion Sweep RL2 fork, X-Fusion 02 RLX shock, Shimano Deore 2×10 drivetrain, KS eTen dropper post with an MSRP of $2599.

Jamis also had other models on display at Interbike including their Dakar XCT lineup with 130mm of travel and 27.5″ wheels, their XCR line of 29ers with 100mm of travel and available in carbon or aluminum and the ever popular Dragon 29 steel hardtail (still made from Reynolds 853) available in 27.5″ or 29″. For 2015, Jamis has six all new women’s specific 27.5 mountain bikes including the Halo line of full suspension bikes and the Eden line of women’s hardtails. Other things to note about Jamis’ 2015 mountain bike lineup is that this is the first year that they are not offering any bikes with 26″ wheels (with the exception of their kids bikes). Also, for their XC hardtails, they are selling more 27.5″ hardtails than 29er hardtails. Jamis was not the only manufacturer that we heard this from.
