First Look: 2015 Troy Lee Designs A1, D2 and D3 helmets

Troy Lee Designs founder, Troy Lee struggled through 2014 with a fairly severe moto accident early in the season. He has since returned to work full-time, pouring his creative energies back in to the company that bears his name.

“Last year was a struggle for me personally, suffering from a big crash on my dirt bike before the summer began, it kept me away from the shop for a many weeks, but more importantly it kept me from my yearly Whistler trip,” said Lee. “This new collection is a big victory because I am really proud of the new designs and improvements. We elevated our testing program and are still setting the benchmark against other brands in safety. The design team worked so hard with me, coming over to my house during the rehab, going over paint ideas, designs and creating. I got back on the bike at the end of summer and I have never been so happy to be back. It feels great to have built a company where we can all create and dream, but more importantly, keep people protected while they enjoy a bike ride.”

Troy Lee Designs is an interesting company as it leads design and fashion in the bike world. Downhill and all mountain riders seek out almost every design they release and other companies follow or copy elements of the company’s lines. They seem to have their finger on the pulse of the industry, as they work very closely with top athletes in mountain biking. Their presence in motocross and auto racing keeps them dialed in with lifestyle and other racing trends as well.

But their wheelhouse goes beyond design, as evidenced by their A1 all mountain helmet and their D2 and D3 full-face helmets. The A1 has become one of the most popular helmets today, as riders appreciate it for its comfort, protection and styling. The head form is amazing and it is very comfortable and well-ventilated.

And the real bonus with Troy Lee helmets and clothing is value. One would expect their helmets and clothing to cost twice as much, but it’s actually quite reasonable. Given their moto roots, they don’t stray too far delivering the best performance and the best value to the customer.
