Fat Chance updates Yo Eddy, debuts new cross bike
Fat Chance updated the Yo Eddy with boost spacing and room for 27.5+ or 29×2.5 tires.
To say that the cycling world was ready for Chris Chance to make a comeback would be an understatement. The reception to his Kickstarter campaign aimed at resurrecting the much-loved Fat Chance brand was exceptional and since then Chance has quickly ramped up production of the Yo Eddy. The Mountain Bike Hall of Famer is no one trick pony, though. At Sea Otter last year, Chance showed off the Slim Chance, a beautiful, steel, rim-brake road bike.
A CNC-machined “demi-yoke” is used to connect the driveside chainstay to the bottom bracket. It increases clearance for tire and chainrings, as well as bumping up rigidity.
This year the Yo Eddy steel hardtail is updated with boost spacing and clearance for 27.5×3.0 as well as 29×2.5 tires. To keep the chainstays short, a bent seat tube is employed. To enable clearance for tires as well as single, double, and triple chainrings, Chance developed a CNC machined, chainstay yoke for the driveside of the Yo Eddy. This “demi-yoke” also increases rigidity.
Also new on the Yo Eddy is a clean rear brake mounting solution on the chainstay.
Every detail of the Yo Eddy receives lavish attention. The rear dropouts are new. So too is the post mount rear brake fitting. The head tube and front triangle tubing is all custom drawn for Fat Chance. Fat Chance is currently taking orders and expects to deliver the U.S.-made frames in 10-12 weeks. You’ll pay $1799 for the honor of owning a Fat Chance reboot. Sizing is what you’d expect with small, medium, large, and XL on offer.
The Chris Cross debuted at Sea Otter. Aimed at cyclocross and gravel riders, it clears 27.5×2.1 or 700×40 tires easily.
For fans of dirty drop bar fun, Chance debuted the Chris Cross, a new cyclocross bike, at Sea Otter. Much like the Yo Eddy, the Chris Cross is steel, made in the United States, offered in a rainbow of colors, but only in stock sizes. Several fork and headset options are offered, including a steel, segmented Yo Eddy road fork made by Chris Igleheart, a Chance cohort since the 1980s. The bike will clear 700×40 as well as 27.5×2.1 tires. Expect to see them on the road and trail after August 1st. Frameset pricing begins at $2195 for the frame with a Ritchey carbon fork and headset.
