Eurobike: Topeak’s Transformer X a combo pump and bike stand
Because we’ve had a bike or two roll away from us while pumping up the tires, we can appreciate the thinking behind Topeak’s new $140 Transformer X bike pump/stand combo. By integrating a two-hook rear wheel bike stand into a standard floor pump, Topeak hopes to kill two birds with one stone, and maybe even give you a bike holder for storage when you’re not adding air.
It’s got extendable front legs to help add stability to the proceedings, and the extra-long hose has the reach to air up the front tire as well as the rear. We attempted to demo the pump in the Eurobike Awards display area—it was a winner, by the way—but were shut down by a stout German woman we knew better than to mess with. We’ll have to get one of these in the home office and see if it’s a gimmick or a keeper.
