Eurobike: Shimano adds mounts, accessories to Sport Camera line
While GoPro still reigns supreme in the action camera realm, there were no shortage of contenders looking for a bite of the POV pie at Eurobike, with Shimano a formidable if surprising standout among them. While we collectively scratched our heads at the Japanese component-maker’s foray into the category a few months ago, we were equally impressed at the visceral footage their sponsored teams subsequently produced at the Tour of California only weeks later.
All other things being equal, Shimano’s access to road cycling at its highest levels may be a critical competitive advantage for exposure, as may be uncharted integration with their cycling computers and electronic shifting systems down the road.
Shimano has added new mounts (top left), camera covers (lower left), and lenses to their Sport Camera ecosystem.
For now, Shimano has added mounts under their PRO sub-brand, as well as rubberized camera covers and some additional lenses. We hope to get US pricing and availability at next week’s Interbike show. We’re currently testing a sample of the Sport Camera for Mtbr’s action cam shootout and will have a full report in the coming weeks.
