Eurobike Day 1: Weird, wacky, and wonderful from Germany
Messe Friedrichshafen is home to a giant convention center — and a blimp garage.
The world’s largest cycling industry trade show kicked off Wednesday at Messe Friedrichshafen, the massive convention center (and zeppelin parking garage) in this small industrial city in southern Germany along the shores of Lake Constance. Mtbr spent the day combing the halls of Eurobike, seeking out the latest and greatest in two wheeled tech. Here are some of the best (and strangest) things we saw.
E-bikes are like opinions, everybody has one. That group now includes Cannondale, which has launched the Moterra, which comes in two builds. Pictured is a 130mm travel option with 27.5 plus tires. There’s also a more burly 160mm version with 2.35” rubber. Propulsion is driven by a Bosch Performance CX 250-watt drive unit, and the design utilizes a torsion box that allows the battery to be positioned in the center and low to the ground. A skid plate protects the motor.
Kind Shock is getting oh so close to releasing its wireless LEV Circuit electronic dropper post. The final version pictured here uses Bluetooth 4.0 to power a tiny motor to open and close the valve. Travel lengths will be 100mm, 125mm, and 150mm in both 31.6 and 30.9 post sizes. Exact pricing has not been set yet, but staffers said it will be somewhere between $500 and $600. Availability is set for January.

After a period of all things matte black, colors are making a big comeback.
Sometimes the marketing lingo gets a little lost in translation. Or maybe this bike is actually equipped with a flux capacitor. If so, we’re buying.

Following the roll out of a rim brake version of its eTap road bike wireless shifting drivetrain earlier this year, SRAM unveiled a disc-brake equipped group here at Eurobike. It cant be long before we see this technology employed on the mountain bike side of the equation as well.
Italy’s Formula showed the new Selva enduro oriented fork. It comes in travel from 120mm to 180mm for 27.5, 27.5 plus, and 29er. Highlight features include a remote cartridge control that puts high speed compression control on the handlebars with 13 positions from open to locked. This bump absorber also utilizes hexagon-shaped stanchions that are designed to increase stiffness. Color choices include black, white, and purple.
