Eurobike Awards: 2016’s Best in Show Winners
The best booth award goes to Marin, which recreated a NorCal bar as a way to entice visitors to step inside.
Debate is done. Votes have been tallied. And this year’s Eurobike Award Winners have been announced. The annual contest of two wheeled tech started with 472 entries, which were whittled down to 51 winners, including a dozen prestigious Gold Award recipients. Here’s a rundown of some of the winners, along with a few of our favorite sightings thus far. Besides those pictured below, other gold medal award winners included Elite’s Quick Motion roller trainer, The 3TExploro aero gravel bike, by.schulz’s Stem Twist SDS, The Rotor 2INpower power meter, and Bike Ahead’s no-slip-application for carbon bike components.
The Uvex Jakkyl HDE is the among the slew of recent entrants into the removable-chin bar helmet game, and was one of the 12 Gold Award winners. The new enduro lid has 14 vents, a Boa tension adjustment dial, and comes in two sizes. The chinbar is attached by a pair of rotatable pins. It takes about 20 seconds to swap back and forth.
The Canyon Sender DH bike made the cut due to its adjustable headtube functionality and MX rear link where shock leverage ratio can be tuned independent of anti-squat, anti-rise or pedal kickback. There are six possible head angles and chainstay configurations, which allow the rider to match geometry to terrain. Look out North America. Canyon is coming.
Giro picked up a gold medal for its new Factor Techlace high-end road shoe, which blends the comfort of laces with the ease of adjustability afforded by Velcro straps and a Boa dial. Read more here.
WTB’s Horizon Road Plus 650b brings the benefits of mid-fat rubber to road and gravel adventuring with a tire that delivers the same diameter as a 700x30c but with far more traction and cushion.
The gold medal-winning Lumos improves your chances for a worry-free commute thanks to light and brake/turn signals built into the helmet. Turn signals are operated by a wireless remote switch on the handlebars. This brain protector started with a Kickstarter campaign that raised $800,000 in 12 hours. It’s water resistant, has a rechargeable battery, and is CPSC certified.
Pivot’s Switchblade skipped past boost spacing and went to Super Boost. The net effect is an aggressive trail bike with 135mm of rear travel, 150mm up front, and the capability to run 29er or 27.5 wheels and 1x or 2x drivetrains.
On the same day SRAM introduced the disc brake version of its eTap wireless shifting system to the world, it was awarded with a Eurobike Awards gold medal.
The Ortema Ortho-Max upper body protector draws on the company’s motorsports expertise to create an ergonomic safety net for the rider.
The Alchemist X-Sense carbon wheels combine innovation and a cool aesthetic.
