Breadwinner Cycles Goodwater rolls out
Complete bikes start at $4350. Frame only is $1995.
Breadwinner Cycles was on hand at Sea Otter, showing off the new Goodwater, a bike the custom builder calls its most versatile to date.
Starting with Columbus steel tubing and custom fit to the rider, the Goodwater is a no-nonsense hardtail that can accommodate 29er or 27.5+ wheels. If you’re a hard-charging cross country rider or a backcountry shredder, the Goodwater has you covered with room for up to 29×2.3 or 27.5×3.0 tires. Customers can also choose boost spacing or even singlespeed stainless steel dropouts. The Goodwater starts at $4350. Frame only is $1995.
Cable routing is elegantly stealth.
The 67.5-degree head angle keeps things sensibly slack without compromising quick handling and front wheel stability while climbing. The 440mm chainstays help keep the bike planted and stable when the going gets fast and rough. Speaking of rough, the bike is optimized for a 140mm fork. Hardtail efficiency paired with mid-travel party. Go ahead, take that gnarly race line and gain a few precious seconds or just a bigger smile.
Ira Ryan and Tony Periera, the men behind Breadwinner Cycles, make each bike to order. The build process starts with a detailed conversation about fit. The design of the bike then continues with Ryan dialing in paint choice before the buyer rounds out the process, making component selections with Periera.
Each Breadwinner bike is built custom for its owner.
Turnaround time is 8-12 weeks from paid deposit to your new bike’s arrival on your doorstep. All of the work takes place in their garages, which are located fairly close to each other in Portland, Oregon. But this will all be changing, as they just signed a lease on a new property rumored to potentially have a café and bar.
