Mtbr’s Take
Do you really need a set of carbon wheels? Probably not, but for those looking to up the performance ante of their 29+ bike with Boost 110/148 spacing running up to 3-inch wide tires, the Bontrager Line Pro 40 carbon wheels deliver improved ride quality, less rotating mass and increased wheel stiffness while offering the quality reputation of Trek OCLV construction. Tubeless setup was effortless thanks to the rim’s hookless inner rim wall design, enabling tires to seat easily. Swapping the Line Plus TLR 29 alloy wheels for the Line Pro 40 carbon wheels on a Trek Stache yielded nearly a half-pound in weight savings (1,830 grams vs. 2,052 grams), a significant amount for rotating mass. The result was noticeably quicker acceleration, more supple ride quality and less cornering flex, taking the already outstanding performance of the Trek Stache to an even higher level.
