Announced: Pivot Cycles Mach 429 SL Carbon
In its ever evolving line of bikes, Pivot Cycles has just announced their newest mountain bike, the Mach 429 SL Carbon. Pivot claims a half pound of weight savings over the previous model and performance for the climbs as well as the downhills. The 226 gram weight savings is achieved by their carbon materials and processes. Lightweight, stiffness and power transfer were all priorities when developing this bike. In addition, the Mach 429 SL Carbon is also fully Di2 integrated via their Pivot Cable Port System which helps make internal routing easier to install and maintain. There are large, easy to access ports and interchangeable covers for clean installation of wires, batteries and cables.
The Mach 429 SL carbon features dw-link suspension, like all of Pivot’s full suspension bikes. The Fox Float Factory shock is tuned specifically for the Mach 429 SL carbon. Pivot says, “World Cup level efficiency is provided by dw-link®’s anti-squat characteristics, instant acceleration and unparalleled climbing traction. Downhill, the 100mm of dw-link® suspension performs like a longer travel bike.”
The previous aluminum framed Mach 429 was always a favorite among Mtbr reader and we expect this new lightweight carbon version to continue in the same vein. Pivot’s other full suspension cross country/trail bike (the Mach 4 Carbon) rolls on 27.5″ wheels and has 115mm of travel, so it is good to see that Pivot hasn’t completely forsaken the 29er riders out there. More choices for mountain bikers is a good thing.

- 1/2lb (226g) weight savings: Frame weight from 5.3lbs (2.4Kg) and sub 23lb (10.4kg) complete.
