AbsoluteBLACK has introduced its first upper chain guide specifically designed to work in conjunction with oval chainrings, which are claimed to ensure complete chain control at every angle of the crank’s rotation. AbsoluteBLACK already design and manufacture oval narrow-wide chainrings, which feature a unique tooth shape to grip individual chain links.

However, there are some riders and racers, especially in gravity disciplines, who desire more secure chain retention. AbsoluteBLACK and 77designz wanted to do something to make these riders feel more secure that their chain will always be right where it should be – engaged and driving them forward.

The absoluteBLACK / 77designz Oval Guide is their answer. Available in a number of fitting options (ISCG05, ISCG05-BSA, HDM or S3/e-type) to ensure any rider, especially those using oval chainrings, can benefit from the added peace of mind the lightweight chain guide provides.

The key unique elements of the Oval Guide are its split guide cage, which can be opened by hand, without tools, to allow free access to the chain and special cage geometry to keep the chain secure at any given point of the crank rotation. Claimed weight is 7-22g, with titanium bolts throughout. Fitting and adjustment requires a T25 Torx key.

The absoluteBLACK Oval Guide works with 1x10, 1x11 or 1x12 transmission (including SRAM Eagle). The Oval Guide is designed to work with oval chainrings between 26-34 teeth, and for round chainrings from 26-36 teeth.

The adjustable absoluteBLACK Oval Guide fits most suspension designs, covering chain-lines from 48-53mm. Spacers are included with each Oval Guide. The composite upper guide has a compact two-piece design, which can be flipped open with your fingers to access the chain.
