7Mesh Cypress jacket features stretchy form-fit

British Columbia-based 7Mesh gave a sneak peek of its Cypress Jacket, a lightweight, breathable shell using multiple fabrics for functionality and fit.
Offered in bright red, the Cypress combines two textiles in a distinctive pattern for protection and comfort. The front and arms use Gore-Tex Windstopper Active for warmth. Back and under arms offer a four-way woven material to eliminate ride flap and lower wind resistance.
The stretch factor derives not from Lycra, but a blend of Italian MITI SpA and other high-end fabrics, said Brian Goldstone, marketing director. While 7Mesh draws on materials from around the world, production is done in Asia.
“Lycra is a great stretch fabric but not known for water resistance,” Goldstone explained. “Coming from B.C. we know if you don’t have good rainwear, you’re not going to be riding.”
The Cypress combines two textiles in a distinctive pattern for protection and comfort.
“For us, the issue isn’t so much what bike you ride, but how you ride it,” Goldstone added. “Our design is based on 7 days or 7 hours. If you’re packing for a road trip, you want versatile gear you can wear both on and off the bike. If you’re doing a long ride, you want gear that can handle a variety of elements but remain comfortable throughout.”
That explains the 7. “Mesh” comes from a B.C. coastal native term for people. “It’s meant as a tribute to our community, people who live here now, and in the past,” Goldstone said.
Zippered side vents are angled for access to jersey pockets.
Based in Squamish, 7Mesh was founded five years ago by industry veterans from Arc’teryx, which helped pioneer the use of Gore-Tex in active clothing.
Anticipated price is $200 and the jacket is due out this fall.
