2019 YT JEFFSY launched

Updated: March 13, 2019

The highly revamped 2019 YT Jeffsy is now hitting consumers’ hands and receiving rave reviews with new owners. Pioneers in the aggressive trail bike category, it was interesting to see how YT was going to one-up the previous generation that challenged the entire industry. Everyone went longer and slacker so YT had to dig deep into their understanding of the bike to develop a new balanced design.

Talented artists on Mtbr forums overlayed how the 2018 Jeffsy (in blue line) changed.

They still offer 27.5 and 29er with very similar geometries but different potential upsides. The 29er has better cornering and climbing upside but only if the rider has the right stature and more important, the riding style to take advantage of it. Some folks are perfectly suited (and faster) with the 27.5 and that’s why YT offers a solution for them.

Evidence of how YT pushes the geometry envelope. But the system around it is the true story.

Like skis, they want bike size to be defined by riding style, in addition to height so a rider can opt for two or three different sizes, and fit perfectly well and be allowed to choose different sizes based on style.

Hitting the hands of the customers

And a key to YT success is the consumer direct model. It not only saves the consumer significant dollars (20-30%) on comparable models, it also gives direct feedback to YT. Product designers and engineers are quickly able to see what folks are buying, what they’re suggesting and what they’re experiencing problems with. And they actually act on it and implement running changes or design and spec ideas for upcoming models.

YT Industries has launched the all-new YT JEFFSY, a bike the German direct-to-consumer seller calls its most versatile and aggressive trail bike to date. The new bike comes in 29er or 27 wheel sizes, and the CF Pro Race, CF Pro and CF Comp are all available in five frame sizes from XXL to S, with the AL Base available in four sizes from XL to S. Travel for the 29er is 150/150mm or 140/140mmm while the 27.5 is offered in 160/160mm or 150/150mm.

All 2019 JEFFSY models feature YT Industries new geometry with a slack head-angle, longer wheelbase, longer reach, lower standover height, and claims of better pedaling performance, ergonomics and riding feel. And all models of the new JEFFSY feature the integrated Flip Chip. With it, riders can adapt the bike’s geometry to suit terrain. In the low position it slackens the head-angle (to 66° on the 29er and 66.5° on the 27in, both in size L) and lowers the BB (to 344mm) for fast and rough terrain. In the high position, the BB is raised to 352mm for better clearance and more fun on the climbs.

2019 YT JEFFSY launched

The 29er (size L) returns seated pedaling efficiency thanks to the 77-degree seat-tube angle, and gives 10mm more rear travel compared to the original JEFFSY, with the 210mm shock delivering a 50/55mm stroke. The 27in counterpart features a 76-degree seat-tube angle and a 230mm shock with 60/65mm stroke.

There’s also a new kinematic with increased anti-squat, and a new bearing and axle system with single-sided access and longer lifetime. The new headbox shape gives increased headtube stiffness, claims YT, and there are fewer mud pockets throughout the frame.

There is a new integrated YT THIRSTMASTER 4000 water bottle and bottle cage, developed in collaboration with Fidlock. The range also features a new cable clamp and cable plugs, and a fully integrated protection system with bolted downtube protection.

Component specification is impressive. Take the JEFFSY 29 CF Pro Race for example. It has a FOX 36 Float Factory fork with 150mm of travel is paired with FOX Float DPX2 Factory shock for responsive and adjustable suspension. The e*thirteen TRSr cranks and Shimano XTR equipment deliver a direct drivetrain feel and crisp and precise shifting, while SRAM Guide RSC brakes bring awesome modulation and ultimate control.

YT JEFFSY 29 CF Pro Race: Product overview

2019 YT JEFFSY launched

With the new JEFFSY 29 you’ll finally be able to ride every trail the way you always wanted to. Every detail on the range-topping JEFFSY 29 CF Pro Race is designed for pure performance and the high-quality spec makes it the first choice for racers and experienced pro riders alike. Thanks to the big 29” wheels, 150 mm of travel and a lightweight component spec it is the perfect partner for anything from flowy home trails to long backcountry adventures. With good rolling speed, incredible traction and impressive climbing abilities the JEFFSY 29 is ready to bring you up any mountain.

After that, you’ll be ready to chase your personal records on the way back down, because once they get moving, those 29er wheels roll easily and quickly over rocks and roots. Additionally, the slack head-angle ensures calm and composed handling when the speed picks up. V4L suspension technology is supple off the top and supports you around the sag point, with enough pop and progressive travel reserves to make sure you don’t bottom out needlessly even on bigger jumps. The result: JEFFSY lets you truly redefine your riding style.

Kit

With a no-compromise component spec, the JEFFSY 29 CF Pro Race is the prime choice for racers and experienced pro riders alike. The FOX 36 Float Factory fork with 150 mm of travel and FOX Float DPX2 Factory shock are extremely responsive and provide pro-level adjustment possibilities. The stiff TRSr crank gives the drive train a direct feel, while Shimano’s crisp and precise XTR shifting ensures you are always in the right gear to put the power down on the trail.

The awesome modulation of SRAM’s Guide RSC brakes helps you stay in control even on steep slopes and in tight turns, while the stiff Renthal Fatbar Carbon and Renthal Apex cockpit combo lets you steer your bike with confidence. FOX’s Kashima-coated Transfer Factory dropper post provides stepless height adjustment to let you put your saddle exactly where you need it to be.

Geometry

For an even better ride feel, the new JEFFSY 29 has a significantly longer reach than its predecessor and on the CF Pro Race model we also gave it 10 mm more travel. The seat tube angle has been made steeper for a more ergonomic seated position, so that even taller riders end up in the center of the bike and can fully benefit from the slack head-angle. To apply YT’s Tailor Made concept also to the new JEFFSY 29, we’ve significantly shortened the seat tube and introduced an XXL size. This gives you the choice between two or even three frame sizes in order to adapt the reach measurement to your riding style and preferences.

To ensure consistent handling across the frame sizes, we’ve made the chainstays longer on the XL and XXL. The now even slacker head-angle has a calming effect on the bike and gives you more control when things get steeper and faster. This is also exactly the point where the longer reach makes itself known, helping JEFFSY stay on track and making sure even taller riders can sit “in” the bike. The integrated Flip Chip lets you further adapt the bike’s geometry to suit your technique and terrain. Run it in the low position to slacken the head-angle and lower the BB for fast and rough terrain, or switch to the high position to raise the BB for better clearance and more fun on the climbs.

YT JEFFSY 27 CF Pro Race: Product overview

The new JEFFSY makes light work of both the climbs and the downhills. Every detail on the range-topping JEFFSY 27 CF Pro Race is designed for pure performance and the high-quality spec makes it the first choice for racers and experienced pro riders alike. With its potent 160 mm suspension package from FOX, generous reach and slack head-angle it is ready to tackle any obstacle, which makes it particularly suitable for aggressive trail riding and enduro racing.

The V4L kinematics provide ample mid-stroke support and plenty of end-stroke progressivity, which explains JEFFSY’s appetite for jumping. The compact chainstays and the 27” wheels give JEFFSY its playful character and help you navigate the tightest of turns with ease. To ensure consistent handling across all the frame sizes, we made the chainstays longer on the XL and XXL. The result: JEFFSY lets you truly redefine your riding style.

YT JEFFSY 29 CF Pro: Product overview

The new JEFFSY is easy rolling, efficient, stable and not in the least sluggish. The reason is the well-balanced geometry with short chainstays that places you in the center of the bike. This way you’ll make optimal use of the big wheels, and you’ll be surprised at just how agile this 29er is. The large contact patch of the tire provides impressive grip and efficient traction, which you will enjoy on longer adventures as well as in uneven terrain.

At the same time, the big wheel keeps you on track even on rough and technical trails and provide you with a sense of security as the speed picks up. With 140 mm of travel, not only can you and JEFFSY 29 rack up the kilometers but you’ll happily step out together in the bike park as well. V4L suspension technology is supple off the top and supports you around the sag point, with enough pop and progressive travel reserves to make sure you don’t bottom out needlessly even on bigger jumps. The result: JEFFSY lets you truly redefine your riding style.

Kit

The JEFFSY 29 CF Pro boasts impressive specifications: the progressive feel of the 140 mm RockShox Pike RCT3 and the RockShox Super Deluxe RT3 shock ensures you have full control even during big impacts, providing enough travel reserve to deal with fast and rough downhill sections. SRAM’s wide range GX Eagle drive train offers 12 gears and with 10–50 teeth on the cassette you can tackle both steep climbs and high-speed descents with ease. Because it’s never about pure speed but rather perfect speed, SRAM’s Guide RS brakes give you precise control and reliable stopping power, while e*thirteen’s TRSr tires deliver superior traction and rolling speed.

YT JEFFSY 29 CF Comp: Product overview

The JEFFSY 29 CF Comp is a hybrid: it features a lightweight carbon front triangle combined with a robust aluminum rear triangle. The efficient traction of the big wheels, the central seated position and the neutral behavior of the rear triangle help you get up the hill without wasting energy – you’ll need it when things point downhill again!

The slack head-angle, long reach and 140 mm of suspension travel provide a fast and stable ride, while the progressive alloy rear linkage ensures a sensitive suspension action with lots of pop. Additionally, the low standover height and the compact chainstays optimize the handling to let you really take advantage of the 29er wheel. To keep the bike balanced in every size, the chainstays are longer on the XL and XXL. The result: JEFFSY lets you truly redefine your riding style.

Kit

Aside from the missing Kashima coating, the 140 mm FOX 34 Float Performance Elite fork and the FOX Float DPS Performance Elite shock want for nothing in terms of performance when compared to the Factory versions. The reason for this are the near-identical damping cartridges which offer excellent responsiveness and enough adjustability to satisfy even the most demanding of racers. Equipped with Shadow+ technology, Shimano’s easy-shifting XT rear derailleur presents a low profile and reduces chain slap for a quiet and serene riding experience. The shifting performance of the e*thirteen cassette ensures even more fun on the trail: with 9–46 teeth it provides crisp shifting and enough range to tackle both climbing and descending. SRAM’s Guide R brakes with proven 4-pot calipers slow you down reliably and with good modulation, while e*thirteen’s TRS+ wheels and tires give you the best possible grip.

The alloy rear triangle offers great sensitivity, delivers good progression when it matters and gives you a lot of pop to let you give into your more playful instincts. The generous reach, slack head-angle and 150 mm of travel make for a quick and stable ride on the descents. The low standover height and the compact chainstays optimize the handling and ensure agility even in demanding terrain. As a true trail bike JEFFSY also performs on the climbs: the rear suspension is practically bob-free and the steep seat tube angle lets you gain the summit with ease. To ensure consistent handling across all the frame sizes and to make sure you feel right at home on your JEFFSY, we made the chainstays longer on the XL and XXL. The result: JEFFSY lets you truly redefine your riding style.
