2018 Giant Reign first look
The Giant Reign has always been a perennial favorite in the All Mountain segment due its combination of performance and value. For 2017, the model has received it’s first major updates since 2014.

The big news is the tweaks to reach and suspension. The bike is now 15mm longer up front, which puts Giant near the forefront of the “longer is better” trend.
Outback, Giant has moved to a trunnion-mounted metric shock. This allows them to run a larger shock (while keeping the same 160mm of travel), which creates a lower leverage ratio. The brand claims this increases shock sensitivity and tunability. The other update worth noting is the move to boost spacing.
The Reign still rolls on 27.5” wheels and aside from reach, the geometry remains relatively unchanged. The 65 degree head angle carries over, although it’s now paired with a 46mm offset fork. Many brands have begun to play with fork offset in an effort to keep these slack bikes nimble at lower speeds, you can read more on that topic here. Surprisingly, the seat tube angle also carries over from the previous model. At 73 degrees, it’s a little on the slack side.
Prices for a complete build starts at $2,700 and tops out at $8,200. The three most affordable option are aluminum, while the top two feature carbon front triangles and aluminum rears.
