2018 Breck Epic: Stage 6 video highlights
What a day. What a week. What a race. And now the 2018 Breck Epic is in the books. Congrats to our overall winners Jeremiah Bishop and Carla Williams, and congrats to all that walked away with a well-earned finisher’s belt buckle.
In the course of a prolific career, Bishop has won short track championships, XC championships, national marathon titles, and logged stage and overall victories at off-road stage races around the world, including overall victories at the 2009 and 2010 Breck Epic.
This year marks his fifth entry at the Breck Epic and Bishop described it as his “smoothest” effort yet, winning 4 stages enroute to his overall win in spite of falling victim to getting off-route on the Aqueduct stage. The 42-year old racer is showing no signs of relinquishing his title as the “winningest American stage racer.” And if that wasn’t enough, Bishop followed up his Breck Epic triumph with a 5th place finish at the Leadville 100 the day after. Now that’s a serious seven days of suffering.
For her freshman effort at the Breck Epic, Williams laid a 41-minute beatdown on the women’s field. Hailing from Roanoke, Virginia, she acknowledged that adjusting to the altitude was rough for the first couple days. But after a DNF due to injury of early race leader Amy Beisel, the two-time NUE series winner Williams found herself with a comfortable cushion and enough breathing room to find her preferred hammer pace.
