Strider is one of the oldest names in the kid’s balance bike game. When it comes to teaching your kids early, nothing beats a balance bike. Trek Fuel EX Junior
The Trek Fuel EX Junior takes all the great parts of the Trek Fuel and downsizes them for kids. The bike features legit parts and a true mountain biker stance. Full suspension bikes for kids can be expensive, but Trek offers this bike at a very reasonable price. Who knew that 26″ wheels would eventual become a kid’s size? Free Agent Maverick BMX Bike
This all-time classic 20” shredder with great racing heritage is the perfect day-to-day bike to get young riders rolling on the street, trail or track. Trailcraft Cycles Pineridge 24
Trailcraft is a new brand based out of Fort Collins, Colorado and they specialize in lightweight 24″ mountain bikes for young riders and budding racers. Concentrating on only one wheel size has allowed them to make a very high performance product at a very competitive price. The Pineridge starts with a lightweight 7005 aluminum frame and hangs it with quality parts such as a Shimano Deore drivetrain and brakes, Stan’s Crest rims, Schwalbe Rocket Ron tires and RST fork specifically tuned for lighter riders. TykesBykes Fat Byke 20
TykesBykes is a fairly new company based out of Southern California. They have three models of balance bikes as well as three pedal choices. Highlighted here is the Fat Byke 20, which has an alloy frame and a steel fork. Fat bikes really do make sense for young riders because they are actually easier to ride and balance. They do weigh more, so this isn’t the best option if your grom is ready to set personal records. But if you live near the beach or snow, this bike could add a bit of versatility to your young one’s rides. Price: $550 | More info at www.tykesbykes.com
Norco Fluid 20″ 2.2
The Fluid line from Norco is a full suspension XC/trail bike that comes in many different version, including three for kids: a 26″ wheel version with 120mm of rear travel, a 24″ wheel version with 100mm of rear travel, and the 20″ wheel version shown here with 83mm of rear travel. Combined with the RST air fork with 60mm of travel, the Fluid 20″ 2.2 will give your little shredder their first taste of the benefits of full suspension. Isla Bikes Beinn 20
Isla Bikes has been selling kid-specific bikes for a while and they have quite an expansive selection of models. From balance bikes to youth bikes, they have something for almost everyone. Featured here is the Beinn 20 that comes in two version: the Beinn 20 Large and a Beinn 20 Small. Both roll on 20″ wheels, but the Small features a slightly smaller frame.
