First Look | Stevens Bikes Jura, Whaka and Whaka+ 2016

German bike manufacturer Stevens already gave us a first peek over their 2016 model range at the Riva Bike Festival. Along with the brand new plus model Whaka+ the Hamburg based company showed us their re-engineered Jura and Whaka.

All Stevens full-suspension frames will feature Boost 148-format, and on all bikes with 27.5+ or 29” wheels all forks will use the Boost 110 standard. In addition all models will receive a remote equipped dropper seatpost. Cable routing will be fine tuned and overall weight further optimised by using a new manufacturing process.

Stevens Jura 2016

The popular Marathon platform Jura will be available in 2016 in two model variations: Jura and Jura ES. The first is somewhat cheaper and fitted with a Shimano SLX/Deore component mix and Scorpo wheels whilst the higher priced Jura ES version rolls on DT Swiss wheels and features a Shimano XT 11 drivetrain.

To match the gears Shimano XT brakes are fitted.

Stevens Whaka 2016

The All-Mountain Whaka bike will be available in different wheel size and spec options. 18” and 20” sizes will also be available with 27.5” wheels. The smallest size 16” is only available with standard 27.5” wheels whilst the 22” frames are only available with 29” wheels. Rear suspension travel for the 27.5” models in sizes 16”-20” has been increased to 150mm.

Für noch direktere Schaltvorgänge und geringere Hebelkräfte setzt auch Stevens ab 2016 auf Side Swing-Umwerfer.
From 2016 Stevens will use Side Swing front derailleurs for more direct shifting with less effort at the shifter.

Like the Jura the lower priced Whaka model features the Scorpo wheels and a Shimano SLX/Deore-Mix whilst the ES version comes with DT Swiss wheels and Shimano XT drivetrain.

Die Bremsaufnahme wurde für die Saison 2016 komplett überarbeitet, wodurch sich auch das Gesamtgewicht deutlich senken ließ.

Stevens Whaka+ 2016

With the newly engineered Whaka+ Stevens is well positioned in 2016 for the Plus bikes category. The frame offers 140 mm suspension travel and like its siblings comes with internally routed cables and a four-bar linkage design.
