Breaking News | FOX Announce New 2016 27.5+ FLOAT 34

The FOX FLOAT 34 just got supersized! In a surprise announcement FOX have revealed a new 34 FLOAT Fork Chassis that will bridge the gap between trail bikes and the new 27.5+ wheel format.

This 110-150mm travel fork is packed full of new innovations, including the all new FIT4 closed cartridge damper which we believe (they could’nt tell us as it was so secret) that we tested on the RAD program, and a new FLOAT air spring. But the surprises do not end there – the new FOX 34 27.5+ is built from the ground up to handle the next big thing – and includes some BIG changes that will rock the industry!

We are about to be hit with a ‘wider is better’ movement, 27.5+ is coming and gaining momentum. By fitting big 3 inch tyres to a super wide 27.5 inch rim – the 27.5+ was born – offering the same roll-over comfort as 29ers, but with a bigger contact patch providing unrivalled grip, without the ungainly manner of a full fat bike. You can find out everything you need to know about 27.5+ in our breakout session on the topic.

While you can squeeze a 27.5+ wheel into a conventional 29er frame, the oversized tyres can cause clearance issues. FOX have a solution, and it’s one that may change everything! While rear axles have been growing steadily wider over the years, 135mm to 142mm, and now even 148mm not much has changed at the front end from the established 15 x 100mm standard. Folks, we have a new fork standard – 110mm x 15mm is here!

The new axle on the Fox FLOAT 34 27.5+ grows to 110mm. This 10mm change may not sound like much but it will widen the crown and legs to provide more tyre clearance and also produce a stronger, stiffer wheel if the spoke angle is increased. The 15 x 110mm standard will require a specific hub as the brake mount position will change, so 15 x 100mm hubs will not be able to be retrofitted with push in adaptors.

The 27.5+ market is certainly heating up, when a big player like FOX brings in a new standard others are sure to follow – so expect some quick announcements from the competition.
