The UAE Tour has already been hot all week in a literal sense, but now things are heating up figuratively too, with the GC riders clashing on Tuesday’s decisive stage 3.
Adam Yates leads the race after putting in a convincing performance on the climb to Jebel Hafeet, with runner-up Tadej Pogacar crossing the line more than a minute behind.
Elsewhere, Classics fans can really start to get excited about the upcoming Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, as teams continue to unveil their rosters for the race – and as the weather forecast takes shape. For now, it’s looking like things could be pretty windy in Flanders this weekend …

| Yates powers into UAE Tour lead
Adam Yates powered to a commanding lead at the UAE Tour on Tuesday, taking a convincing stage 3 victory atop the Jebel Hafeet climb.
With some six kilometers left to ascend, Yates attacked out of a small group containing Alexey Lutsenko and David Gaudu and quickly built a big gap. Tadej Pogacar bridged to Lutsenko and Gaudu and then went to work trying to close down Yates’s advantage, but he never managed to make up the ground. Yates ultimately hit the line a whopping 1:03 ahead of Pogacar with Lutsenko a further 27 seconds back in third.
| Cardoso challenging ban in public CAS hearing
André Cardoso is challenging his four-year doping ban before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in a public hearing, NBC Sports reports.
The Portuguese rider tested positive for EPO in 2017. He denied having doped, and a followup test of his B sample returned what has been reported as an inconclusive result, but he was handed a ban over a year later. The CAS is now hearing his case. A lawyer for the UCI has argued that the difference in results came down to a degradation of the sample.

According to The Associated Press, International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound says organizers have until late May to decide whether to continue with the Tokyo Olympics in the face of coronavirus concerns.
“In and around that time, I’d say folks are going to have to ask: ‘Is this under sufficient control that we can be confident about going to Tokyo, or not?'” Pound said.
| Omloop forecast calls for gusty weather
Saturday’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad is still a few days out, but at least for now the weather forecast features for some windy and possibly wet conditions in Flanders.
As Sporza points out, the current forecast calls for wind gusting at up to 80 kilometers per hour, with the chance of rainshowers later in the day.
| Van Dijk will return at Omloop
Speaking of the Omloop, Ellen van Dijk will return to racing there five and a half months after a crash at the Boels Ladies Tour left her with fractures to her humerus and pelvis, ending her 2019 season early.
Trek-Segafredo has unveiled its roster for Belgian one-day with van Dijk set to race alongside Elisa Longo Borghini, Ruth Winder, Lotta Henttala, Trixi Worrack, and Audrey Cordon-Ragot.
