World champ Pedersen extends with Trek-Segafredo
Mads Pedersen, the reigning world road champion, will ride on with Trek-Segafredo through the 2022 season.
The 24-year-old Dane has been with the team since 2017, winning the Tour of Denmark in his first year there, and showing his Classics chops with a runner-up ride at the Tour of Flanders in 2018. Last fall, while still just 23, he scored a world title for Denmark at Yorkshire Worlds.
“Luca [Guercilena, team manager] really believed in me three years ago when I first signed with the team,” Pedersen explained in Trek’s announcement of the contract news.
“In fact, even in the previous year before that, when I was in a bit of trouble with Cult (Energy Pro Cycling) and Stölting he had already showed great confidence in me when he told me I would have a contract if the team closed. That team continued for one more year so I stayed with them but I was really happy that Luca gave me the confidence already back then. It was a huge factor in re-signing with the team now.”

Pedersen will be a featured rider for Trek in the Classics this season, and he said that a main objective for him now is to become more consistent, featuring in “not just the big races but in all the races, instead of popping up occasionally.”
According to the team, Pedersen is also slated to make his Tour de France debut later this year.
