Vos will miss Amstel Gold Race to focus on Paris-Roubaix Femmes
Amstel Gold Race defending champion Marianne Vos will not line up on Sunday. Instead of testing her form against the peloton in the Netherlands, the Dutchwoman has her sights set on Paris-Roubaix Femmes a week later.
“Marianne finished second in Paris-Roubaix last year. She has chosen not to ride in Limburg now, but to do some extra training so that she appears rested and fit at the start in Denain next week,” said Jumbo-Visma Sports Director Lieselot Decroix.
Vos hasn’t been on the top step of a road race yet this season. She took some time off after winning the Cyclocross World Championships in January and ultimately started her season at Strade Bianche, a few weeks after her main rivals.
The Jumbo-Visma rider was also sidelined in mid-March due to illness.
So far she has finished seventh at Strade Bianche, and second behind Elisa Balsamo at Gent-Wevelgem, and 20th at the Tour of Flanders; she was still a favourite to defend her Amstel Gold Race title. Nevertheless, Jumbo-Visma will not be completely lost without their top contender. Anna Henderson and Coryn Labecki are rumoured to be racing, and both women are more than capable of animating the race on Sunday.
