Hello again, CyclingTips readers.
We’ve reached the end of the first week in a very long time that has seen WorldTour pros racing each other in actual, UCI-sanctioned international bike races, and the reigning world road champ has already taken the opportunity to add to her win total. Twice.
On the heels of a win at Thursday’s Emakumeen Nafarroako Klasikoa, Annemiek van Vleuten picked up another one-day victory in Spain on Friday, winning the Clasica Femenina Navarra. The win makes her three for three in racing appearances so far this year. Not bad.
In other news, Jumbo-Visma is reportedly set to launch a women’s team in 2021, and the team is apparently looking to build around either the aforementioned van Vleuten or Marianne Vos, which sounds like a good way for the squad to prepare for a strong debut season in the women’s peloton.

| Van Vleuten wins Clasica Femenina Navarra
Annemiek van Vleuten took her second victory in as many days on Friday at the Clasica Femenina Navarra.
A day after winning the Emakumeen Nafarroako Klasikoa, the reigning world road champ powered to another convincing win in Spain’s Navarre region. Van Vleuten joined a move spurred by Elisa Longo Borghini midway through the race, and the pair rode together into the finale, where van Vleuten rode away for the win. Longo Borghini took second 1:14 back with Maria Giulia Confalonieri in third, 2:06 down.
| Jumbo-Visma tied to top talent as launch of women’s team nears
According to Cycling Opinions, Jumbo-Visma is working on putting together a women’s team that will launch in 2021.
Cycling Opinions reports that Esra Tromp of Parkhotel Valkenburg is expected to direct the project, and that Jumbo-Visma is hoping to bring on either Marianne Vos or Annemiek van Vleuten as team leader. The team is said to have been previously interested in Anna van der Breggen and Chantal van den Broek-Blaak as well, but both recently renewed with Boels-Dolmans.
| Mühlberger takes Sibiu Cycling Tour stage 1
Bora-Hansgrohe rode to a one-two finish on Friday at the Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania.
The 183-kilometer stage from Sibiu concluded with a climber-friendly finish at Bâlea Lac, where Gregor Mühlberger ascended to victory with teammate Patrick Konrad taking runner-up honors 16 seconds later. Matteo Badilatti nabbed third, 1:04 back. Konrad now sits atop the general classification with Mühlberger in second.
| Arkéa-Samsic is taking over the Chazal-Canyon cyclocross team
Arkéa-Samsic is investing in a cyclocross team. Le Télégramme reports the Chazal-Canyon team run by former French ‘cross champ Steve Chainel is coming under the Arkéa-Samsic umbrella.
The squad will be known as Team Cross Legendre, with Hubert saying, “This team will allow us to have good young people coming from another sector than that of the road and not to miss, who knows, the future Julian Alaphilippe.”
