Story of the Day: Van der Poel and Worst follow up Tabor World Cup victories with wins at Flandriencross
Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus) and Annemarie Worst (777) both put in strong showings on back-to-back days this weekend, taking the respective men’s and women’s victories at Saturday’s World Cup round in Tabor, Czech Republic, and then winning again on Sunday at DVV Flandriencross.
After topping Ceylin Carmen del Alvarado (Corendon-Circus) and Yara Kastelijn (777) in Tabor, Worst battled with a select group of rivals through most of Sunday’s race in Hamme, Belgium, before going clear in the final lap. She held on out front ahead to nab the victory with Sanne Cant taking runner-up honors and Alvarado in third.
Her win propelled Worst into the DVV series lead.

On the men’s side, van der Poel narrowly topped Eli Iserbyt (Marlux-Bingoal) in Tabor on Saturday with Lars van der Haar (Telenet Fidea Lions) in third before taking a clear Flandriendcross victory on Sunday. Midway through the race, the reigning world champion rode away from the field and ultimately won by 40 seconds.
Pawels Sauzen-Bingoal’s Laurens Sweeck and Tim Merlier rounded out the podium.

Van der Poel’s strong showing on the bike this weekend came after what has been a difficult week for his family. French cycling legend Raymound Poulidor, van der Poel’s grandfather, died on Wednesday at age 82. Tabor marked van der Poel’s first race back since his grandfather’s passing, and he posted a touching message on Instagram.

Rigoberto Urn is back riding after a long period spent off the bike recovering from the multiple injuries he suffered in a crash on stage 6 of the Vuelta a Espaa.

“After three months, I am putting on my kit again for the first time,” Urn said in a video posted on social media.
“We’ll see how I am. I’ve had a good recovery and now I’m going to try and go out on the bike on the road. I’m excited after so long.”
Al becomes Movistar’s clothing partner
With Movistar’s long partnership with Endura coming to an end, the Spanish WorldTour squad will race in Al kit in 2020, the team has announced.
The official look will be unveiled next month, but Movistar has already said that the kit will continue to feature the blue colors that the team has sported for years.
Parkinson to join Lotto Soudal from Drops
Abby-Mae Parkinson will join Lotto Soudal next year, the team has announced.
The 22-year-old Briton, who was already racing pro events with Servetto Footon at age 18, has spent the past three seasons with Drops.
“Next year I want to help out my teammates wherever I can,” Parkinson said. “Ive never been involved in a proper lead-out, but Id love to practice that next year and help out Lotte Kopecky and the other fast girls. I hope to have some chances of my own in smaller races, where I can race aggressively.”
Lpez set for Tour debut
According to La Gazzetta, Astana plans to send Miguel ngel Lpez to next year’s Tour de France, which would mark the Tour debut for the 25-year-old Colombian.

Lpez is a two-time Grand Tour podium finisher who has landed in the top 10 of his last five starts in three-week races, but has yet to race the Tour with Astana Jakob Fuglsang leading the team there over the past few years. La Gazzetta reports that Astana will likely send Fuglsang to next year’s Giro, although a Tour start is not yet ruled out.
