USA Cycling reveals 10-race criterium calendar, series name yet to be settled

USA Cycling announced the full 10-race calendar for the new criterium racing series it is organizing in 2022 to replace the now-defunct USA CRITS series. Several of the races that are part of the new series were part of the USA CRITS calendar.

The demise of USA CRITS came swiftly this fall after it was revealed that longtime USA Crits managing director Scott Morris was serving a ban imposed by SafeSport. Teams pulled their participation from the series even after Morris had been fired.

As previously revealed, the new series will offer $100,000 in overall prize money, equally split between the men and women in addition to individual event prize purses. All events in the series are committed to awarding equal prize money for the pro men’s and women’s fields in their prospective races.

Missing in the calendar was an official series name. That is still being finalized and is expected to be announced in the coming weeks along with further details. We presume this means we will find out which teams have committed to racing the entire series.

It also remains to be seen whether L39ION of Los Angeles will be part of the series. Controversy engulfed the team in November after it failed to pay out the highly marketed prize purse for its own race promptly. That race, “Into the Lion’s Den” is not on the new series calendar.
