Trek expands e-road lineup with new Domane+ LT all-road machine

Interested in a new Trek Domane all-road bike, but could use a little extra help? According to Trek, its new Domane+ LT e-bike offers the same ride and handling benefits of the regular Domane, but with the added oomph of an integrated mid-drive motor system courtesy of German company Fazua.

And get this: it’s removable.

Have it your way

The Fazua Evation is quickly gaining favor as the preferred motor system of choice for high-performance e-road (and similar) variants for couple of main reasons: it’s comparatively lightweight, and it generates virtually no additional mechanical drag when the motor isn’t running. What really sets it apart from Bosch, Shimano, and others, however, is the fact that the motor and battery can be easily removed altogether, leaving behind a normal bike with minimal added weight to slow you down.

According to Trek, the Fazua system provides an extra 250W of assistance up to 32km/h (20mph), and for up to 65 miles of distance. Controls are fully integrated into the top tube so that the cockpit area can remain uncluttered.

As e-bike systems have gotten smaller and more compact, bike brands have gotten better at integrating them into the frame for a more seamless appearance.

Otherwise, the rest of the Domane+ LT sounds much like other Domane models, incorporating front and adjustable rear IsoSpeed “decouplers” to help smooth out rough roads, Trek’s 5000-series OCLV carbon fiber, clearance for tires up to 38mm-wide (or 35mm if you plan on using fenders), front and rear disc brakes, front and rear thru-axles, and the identical “endurance” geometry, but with a more limited 52-62cm size range.

Trek is offering the new Domane+ LT in a single model for now, equipped with a Shimano Ultegra 2×11 mechanical transmission and hydraulic disc brakes, DT Swiss G1800 tubeless aluminum clincher wheels wrapped with 32mm-wide Bontrager R3 tubeless road tires, Fazua-specific FSA aluminum crankarms, and Bontrager finishing kit.

Claimed weight for the complete 56cm bike without pedals is 13.56kg (29.9lb) with the Fazua motor and battery installed, or 10.7kg (23.6lb) with the motor and battery removed.

Retail price is US$6,500 in the United States; pricing and availability for other regions is to be confirmed.
