Tour organizers mull one-month delay

Supported by

Tour de France organizers are looking into the possibility of holding the event roughly one month after its initially scheduled dates, according to French newspaper Le Parisien and Spanish news agency Efe.

The ASO has reportedly been in contact with some of the localities hosting stage starts and finishes to gauge support for the new dates. Originally planned to run from June 27 to July 19, the proposed rescheduled Tour would instead run from July 25 to August 16.

According to reports, town halls have been receptive to the new dates, although any plans to hold the event in the near future, rescheduled or not, would also require the approval of government authorities.

Reports emerged in recent weeks that French officials might be open to the idea of a Tour held without spectators, but Tour director Christian Prudhomme rejected that possibility.

For now, Tour organizers have made no official announcements. According to reports, the ASO is planning to hold off until May 15 before making a final decision on how or if it will proceed with plans for this year’s Tour.
