The riders, courses, and winner’s jerseys for the Zwift UCI World Championships
Zwift today announced more details of the upcoming E-Sports world championships. With just over two weeks until the inaugural event, Zwift and the UCI confirmed the rider start list, the course, winners jerseys and a series of community events.
A total of 22 nations will be represented across the men’s and women’s races on December 9th with a number of household WorldTour names lining up virtually alongside the best e-sports racers in the world. Top names such as Anna van der Breggen, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Annemiek Van Vleuten, and Rigoberto Uran will have to adjust to the unique demands of E racing quickly if they are to challenge the indoor specialists such as Lionel Vujason, Ollie Jones and Cecilia Hansen. Men and women will race the same 50km route on the Watopia Figure of 8 Reverse course. With a total of 483m of climbing and a challenging 900m drag to the finish, averaging 5.5%, the course will suit a variety of riders with many feeling they have a chance of taking home the honours. Couple this with the technical nature of Zwift racing, which differs vastly from real-world racing, and we could see one of the lesser-known names cause an upset.

For whoever does take the win in each event there will be the honour of wearing the new UCI E-Sports world champions jersey, both virtually and in real-life at E-Sport events for 2021. The new jersey is a variation of the classic multi-discipline world champions white jersey with rainbow stripes. To represent the E-Sports nature of the event the iconic jersey will get partially pixelated rainbow stripes.
Zwift will also host a number of events for the wider Zwift community. Starting December 1st and running every day for a week, Zwift will release a series of specially recorded podcasts with current and former world champions including Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish, Anna van Der Breggen, Annika Langvad and Mathieu van der Poel. These podcasts will be available on Zwift Powerup Podcast recon rides so you can listen while checking out the same course the world championships will be decided upon.
For those looking for some competitive action, Zwift has announced the new Nations Challenge hosted by WTRL on December 5/6. Open to all Zwift members, this is billed as an opportunity for Zwifters to represent their country on the world stage. In the Nations Challenge, Zwifters will ride together as a nation to set the fastest time. The nation with the fastest average time across all participants will be crowned winners, so riders are encouraged to work together to get everyone to the line as fast as possible.
A series of other events will be hosted by UCI Zwift Cycling Esports World Championships partners Garmin-Tacx, Shimano, Science in Sport and Toyota South Africa with further information available here.
